Our Promises

Our Promises
(Or what we learned from a 274-year-old Irish shop)
You know those moments when you're not looking for anything in particular, but find exactly what you need? I had one of those recently in Ireland. Rachel (my wife) and I were wandering through Galway on our honeymoon, and I spotted this sign above a goldsmith's shop that stopped me in my tracks. While Rachel was more than happy to "just poke around" the jewelry store (yeah, right), I stood there like a tourist taking pictures of their sign:
"This establishment is dedicated to fair play and a square deal. No man should expect less nor be given more."
Maybe it was the magic of the moment – wandering Galway with my sweetheart as a newlywed. Perhaps it was that I'd spent so many hours thinking about this. Or maybe it was just how darn perfectly those words captured what Tom and I had been trying to say since starting RetiredMortgages. Either way, I was stoked to show the picture to Tom when I got back to the office.
Those words above that old shop door became RetiredMortgage’s promise. They captured exactly how dad had run Tekamar for the past 45 years - just do right by people, every time. It's how we wanted to run RetiredMortgages, and the commitment we wanted to make to our clients for the next 45 years. So, our promise to you is this:
We will always do what's right, and that will be fair to all concerned.
That’s it. Pretty straightforward, right? That's exactly how we like it. For us, it means being upfront when a reverse mortgage isn't the right fit, taking time to explain things properly even if it means a longer process, and sometimes telling people they'd be better off with a different solution entirely.
Why You Can Trust This Promise
Here's something most people don't realize - Tom and I paid good money to buy this business. Enough that we each had to get second mortgages on our homes. That’s unique, because most service businesses usually aren't worth much. But a mortgage company that's been trusted for 45 years? That's different.
What we really bought was a reputation that took nearly half a century to build. A reputation worth more than my house. That means we've got way too much invested to risk it all by cutting corners or taking advantage of anyone.
Think about it - what makes more sense for us? Making a quick buck today, or protecting a reputation that's been growing since the Sony Walkman was cutting-edge technology? We regularly turn down deals that would make us good money because they're not right for the client. And you know what? Those clients still send their friends and family to us. Turns out doing the right thing is pretty good for business.
No Fine Print Needed
We could probably fill this page with detailed promises and guarantees. But honestly? Our reputation and 45 years of happy clients tell the story better than any fine print could. If our promise to "always do what's right for everyone” every time sounds fair to you, we'd love to show you how we live up to it.
Want to see how this plays out in real life? Check out "Why Choose Us" next - it's where we break down what working with a “young 45-year-old company” actually means for you.
P.S. - We might be a few centuries behind that goldsmith shop that’s still open in Galway, but we're playing the long game. Here's to the next 45 years of doing right by our clients.
